赵成开了一家工厂，需要大批工人千活。
他想要那种做事情效率高，最好是能够永不停歇，像机器人那样不停工作的工人。可只要是人，就不可能这样。
思来想去，赵成想到了鬼——他听说人变成鬼之后就不需要再吃饭睡觉了。
于是赵成找到一位养鬼人，给他一沓钱，说明自己的情况，希望他能帮助自己。
养鬼人收了钱，交给赵成一批鬼，让它们为他工作。他说这些鬼都受过专门训练，做事情的效率绝对是最高的。同时还嘱咐他：这些鬼千万不能见阳光，也不能与人距离太近。
赵成连连点头。于是，养鬼人把数十名鬼工送到赵成的工厂里。
自那以后，赵成的生意越做越大：别家工厂需要三个星期才能生产出来的东西，赵成的工厂两天就可以完成了。
有一天，一个大客户领着自己的员工来到赵成这里，提出想参观他的工厂，让自己手下的人学习赵成工人的工作态度。
这个客户十分重要，赵成不想得罪，就同意了。至于养鬼人当时的话，他早就忘了。
赵成打开工厂的大门，迎着客户和他手下二十几名员工进了工厂。
工厂里，一排排工人一丝不苟地工作着。除了机器的声响外，没有一点儿说话的声音。
客户睁大了眼睛，一边连连称赞一边去拍一个工人的肩膀，想问几句话。
可没想到那个工人一阵颤抖，一下子转过身来。它的鼻子和嘴巴被工作口罩遮住，双眼却冒出了红光。
客户一声惊叫，后退几步。
赵成看见这一幕才想起养鬼人嘱咐过的话。他慌了，连忙叫大家往外跑。可工厂的大门自动关闭了，怎么也打不开。
转头看，那些鬼工全都停下了手中的活儿，飞快地冲向众人……
赵成被一个鬼工扑倒在地，感觉身上越来越冷。等他意识到自己是正在被吸阳气时，才稍稍放心下来。
他以前在书上看过，鬼吸人阳气得好几天才能吸完。这几天里总会有人来工厂，那时他就得救了。
趴在他身上的鬼工猜到了他的想法，“嘿嘿”地笑着说：“别想好事儿了：我们受过训练，不仅工作，连吸阳气都是高效率呢！”
