巫婆在闽西被称为“瓜鬼”，瓜大概是“抓”的衍化。这种巫婆平时好象也没什么超人力，甚至一个年青人就能反她推得东倒西歪。但有时候却非常恐怖。她伸出手指，只要抓到了人，那人身上必定浑身长胞，最起码要躺个十天半夜的，因此大家都很怕她们。在我的印象中，一直到九十年代初都还有“瓜鬼”，但是这两年就没怎么听说，大概老一辈的“瓜鬼”都死了吧。
据母亲所言，她孩提时村中有一女巫，喜欢和小孩厮混。孩子见她面目可憎，多敬而远之，独有大舅心地善良，经常陪她玩。她因此而很喜欢大舅。一年中秋女巫在圆月下焚香祈神，念念有词，不久村中小孩突生怪病，半月乃止，唯有大舅健壮如初。
女巫死时，村中无人愿意抬棺木，村长并且规定，不准停尸吊殓。最后一卷破席成为她灵魂的栖息之所。奇怪的是，她似乎对此颇为满意。生前招人厌恶的她，在死后没有继续作乱。

文革期间，邻居郑婆担任生产队会计，掌管整个大队的财物。谁都不知道此人心术不正，偷偷地把许多公家的东西往暗房里藏。那时候大家一心建设共产主义，象这种人的出现大概也算奇迹。某年中秋，一位巫婆前来串门。在明晃晃的月亮下，她对着谷堆念了几遍咒语。本意是歌颂党和社会主义五谷丰登，早日赶超美帝英贼。不料恶有恶报。只见郑婆突然披头散发，捶胸顿足，开始一字一句地忏悔起来。她一五一石，把自己平时如何克扣粮米，如何中饱私囊，如何做假帐的坏事通通都抖了出来。父亲当时二十岁左右，见此景大为惊讶。又过了二十年，他把惊讶传染给我。
我亲眼见到的巫婆只有一个，但是最早并不知道她是巫婆。平时她慈眉善目的，我们都不知道。她也很少发脾气。在家里还常常被儿媳妇欺负。每次她都容让。她和我们村的郑婆关系很好，两人经常坐在公园的长凳上说体己的话。有一天不知因为什么事，两人争吵起来，巫婆也没做什么，只是拿指甲在郑婆的脸上划了一道，郑婆顿时就晕倒在地，不醒人事。巫婆慢悠悠地走回家里，让郑婆的儿子去抬她妈上医院。医院判断是很简单的细菌感染，但是郑婆持续晕迷了三天才完全清醒。回家后仍有两个月不能下床。从此以后，众人见了巫婆闻而色变。更有趣的是她的儿媳，以前对她颐指气使，后来看到她就脸色发青，再也不敢对她说半句大声的话。这个巫婆一直到九八年才去世。春节回家祭坟时，我曾经路过她的暮地。同行的小侄子远远见了就闪，说会沾染邪气。我跑到她的墓前，只见几枚纸花，在风中飞来旋去，似乎在唱一首旧远的歌。
